Dubai Airport to implement new baggage rules

March 6, 2017 UAE

Dubai International Airport is set to implement new  baggage rules to improve its service. The new rules to be implemented from 8th March will restrict passengers to carry irregular shaped or oversized bags, cartoon boxes and bags tied with ropes.

“Dubai International Airport provides one of the most advanced baggage systems in the world,” said Ali Angizeh, Vice President of Terminal Operations at Dubai International. “The technologically advanced systems can be disrupted by irregular or oversized bags and may create baggage jams. Also it causes delay in baggage delivery to the aircraft and inconvenience to our customers,” he said. He also added that the new rules will be implemented for security reasons too.

The rules will strictly prohibit check-in of round bags that do not have a flat surface. Passengers presenting at the airport with non-complaint baggage will be given option to repack it for a fee.

Nepalese workers returning from foreign employment used to bring cartoon boxes and luggage tied with ropes. Now the rules will restrict them to do so. Dubai Airport has already informed all airlines operating to the airport about the new regulations. Nepal Airlines has been conducting regular flights to UAE so; the Country Manager, Ramesh Poudel has requested Nepalese people to stop carrying such baggage.
