Dream becoming reality : Prime Minister places the Foundation Stone for Pokhara Regional International Airport
Sumesh Shrestha -The last day of 2072 was marked by the first commercial flight of Himalaya Airlines, the first private owned airline in Nepal operating a jet plane operated by a joint investment of Nepali and Chinese yesterday. Aviation lovers in Nepal were just celebrating this day as a big day in history and just the next day today the celebration still is to continue as Honorable Prime Minister K. P. Woli places the foundation stone for the establishment of Pokhara Regional International Airport in Pokhara today in the auspicious occasion of first day of year 2073 B.S.
With this, the 40 years old dream of people of Pokhara as well as the people of Nepal to establish second international airport in Nepal becomes alive. Prime Minister Woli is just done with the foundation stone and inauguration ceremony today. He had signed a loan agreement with China for the establishment of the airport during his visit to China on 21 March last month. Prime Minister Woli and Chinese representative Lee Khhachyan signed the paper of loan agreement only after which this project for establishment of Airport headed to success for a jumpstart.
President of the Chinese Construction Company C.A.M.C. who got the tender of construction of the airport was present at the ceremony with a group of Chinese representative. Similarly Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal, CPN UML leader Jhalnath Khanal, Minister of Nepali Congress Sashank Koirala was also present at the ceremony.
The private representatives under collaboration of Chamber of Commerce, Pokhara conducted the ceremony with an active participation of the local people. They were responsible for sending invitations to all the delegate and guests and scheduling arrangements of the ceremony according to Dev Chhetri, President of the Chamber. The Tourism business agencies of Pokhara were also collaborated under the Council of Tourism Business of Pokhara for the ceremony. They made the arrangements for the cultural performances during the ceremony. Altogether 14 committees participated for the organization of ceremony under the Highest Level Service Committee of the airport construction leaded by Member of Parliament Rabindra Adhikari.
