Discussions going on for GBIA operation modality

As the Gautam Buddha International Airport construction process is in final phase, government has started discussion for operation modalities with Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). CAAN has recommended 2 modalities in response.

Sanjiv Gautam, Director General of CAAN said that Public Private Partnership modality is most likely to be selected and until a definite modal is selected, CAAN will be operating itself.

Government is gearing up to bring Gautam Buddha International Airport into operation by 2019 and all the work is now paced up. Almost 50% work of the airport is completed and currently runway construction is going on. Rabindra Adhikari, tourism minister said there is no doubt in stating that work won’t be completed in time.

Similarly, Pokhara International Airport runway work is due to be completed by 2019 and come into operation by 2021. Currently 15% work has been completed and the airport will be operated as ‘Boutique Airport’.
