Deadline given to the Civil Aviation Ministry for the submission of explanation

On November 29,2012, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) and AVIC International Holding Corporation signed an agreement for 2 Xian MA-60’s and four Harbin Y-12e’s aircraft. Out of which one MA-60 and one Y-12e (worth RS. 2.94 billion) was delivered to Nepal as a gift. Both aircraft are unsuitable for the terrain of Nepal. Thus, remaining four aircraft are still on hold as NAC isn’t being able to operate current Chinese aircraft. MA-60 has been operating with load restriction whereas Y-12e has been grounded form several months because of shortage of type-rated pilots.

The Parliamentary International Relations and Labour Committee(PIRLC) has given deadline of 15 days to Ministry Of Culture,Tourism and Civil Aviation for the submission of explanations regarding the delay in acquiring remaining Chinese aircraft.

It has been reported that Ministry is seeking for the permission to sign another agreement with AVIC so that NAC would be on the path of benefit and profit in domestic flight sector.
