CAMCE initiates earthwork at Pokhara Regional International Airport construction site

The essential earthwork for the construction of Pokhara Regional International Airport has been initiated from this Sunday.  The China CAMC Engineering company has started to excavate the existing land to a suitable level so that the construction of runway, taxiway, apron, terminal and other infrastructures can be initiated.

The construction company has committed to accomplish 80 per cent of work by the next 9 months. At present, the works such as leveling, filling and cutting of soil embankments is going on. The next phase of the construction process will be initiated only after the completion of earthwork.

A total of 30 Chinese engineers along with 120 workers have been deployed at the construction site. There is no any hindrance at the moment so the construction company is working effectively to accomplish their task in desired time. The overall design of the airport project is expected to complete within 5 months.

Construction of Pokhara International Airport (at Chinnedanda-3 km to the east of Pokhara’s present domestic airport) was inaugurated with placing foundation stone by then Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli on April 13, 2016. The tender was secured by the Chinese Engineering Company CAMCE who started the project from August 2 this year. The Company is going to construct the International Airport with projected amount of 215 Million US Dollar which is obtained via loan from Exim Bank of China.

CAMCE also committed to complete the airport project within 4 years from the date of initiation. The wide body aircraft like Boeing 757, Airbus 330 and narrow body aircraft like Airbus 320 will be able to land on the runway of newly built International Airport.
