Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is preparing to finalize the construction company who will be allocated with ‘Extension of Parallel Taxiway towards Runway 02 end at TIA and Associated Works’.
CAAN has announced to open the prequalification applications submitted by the prequalified bidders as per the ‘Invitation for Prequalification of bidders’ published on June 25, 2018. This project will be focused on the extension of the parallel taxiway in the southern part of the runway while the extension of the parallel taxiway in the northern part will also be carried out after the invitation of bids by this September.
The opening of the application will be conducted on September 17 ,2018 at the office of Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project (ATCEP), Sinamangal, Kathmandu.
The length of the new taxiway at the southern side will be minimum 1000 meters whereas it will be 1400 meters for the northern part of the runway.
Aircraft have to face delays before landing and takeoff due to unavailability of the full-length taxiway at TIA. Moreover, an aircraft must backtrack in order to prepare for takeoff thus, consuming more time and enhancing air traffic congestion at the country’s only international airport.

The main objective of the extension of the parallel taxiway is to reduce waiting time for aircraft during takeoff and landing.
The project of extending the parallel taxiway at the southern side is under the financial responsibility of CAAN. On the other hand, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the government will be jointly funding the project at the northern part.
