Balewa Airport located at Baglung Municipality-14 is in stage to run operation after 26 years of closure.
The technical and administrative work of the airport is intensified in order to start the flight operation within the second week of Chaitra, 2074.
The work is being done according to the suggestion of the technical study of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). Baglung Municipality said that the technology team of the CAAN on Monday will arrive for the necessary device connection.
Janak Raj Poudyal, head of the Baglung Municipality stated the final agreement is done to operate the airport.
Earlier, there was consent between CAAN, airlines companies and Baglung Municipality to start a regular flight on Chaitra. After the same consent, the authority had organized the preparations for the operation of the airport.
Manager of CAAN Mr.Induraj Adhikari, Engineer Tara Kanta Singh and Maniraj Ojha conducted a technical study on the airport.
According to the suggestion given by the technical team, the repair and maintenance of the infrastructure has reached the last phase. With the aim to facilitate the airport, the task of removing the tree of the south east of the airport has been started. Similarly, the fencing and security arrangements are also being done.
Authorities have taken all responsibility for the repair, equipment and employee management of the airport. In 2022 BS, the construction of the Baglung-Pokhara road was completed and after that in 2048, the airport came to a closure. Although the initiative was taken to bring the airport into operation several times but it did not get meaningfulness.
The Balewa Airport is considered important for tourism and development of Dhaulagiri region as well.
