Alternative domestic airport to be constructed for mitigating air traffic at TIA

An alternative airport is planned to be constructed in Kavre to reduce the air traffic congestion of Tribhuvan International Airport. In order to manage internal flights, the construction of the airport will be finalized soon.

Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari has visited the possible construction site of airport. Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has started preliminary study in both places for construction of the airport. The construction of airport was not able to speed up even after the long run of the study.

Talking to media, Minister Adhikari has informed that within 15 days, in which place the construction of airport is feasible will be confirmed.

According to Minister Adhikari, an expert committee will be formed within two days and the responsibility will be given to submit the report within 15 days. From the conclusion of the report, the construction of the airport will be included in the budget of the next fiscal year.

If the Internal (Domestic) airport is built outside of Kathmandu, the maximum domestic flight can be done from here. By studying the three places we have visited today and by the further study of the report, we can quickly decide which place is effective and with local support and less expenses where the airport can be constructed in a short time, Minister reported.

Tourism Minister said that in the construction of alternative airports, all the process including selection of construction models, technology will be decided within proposed 100 days in order to speed up the process quickly.
