Lack of proper enhancement of the infrastructure has raised the safety concern at the airports of Karnali region. From last 31 years, several fatal air disasters at Karnali have stroke claiming a lot of air travelers’ life and the claim is inevitably still on.
Though there has not been any human casualty but frequent aircraft crash has crumbled the reliance of local citizens from air service. And still the concerned authority does not seem to be deliberated. The reason for various incidents at Karnali is also lack of infrastructural development and governing to till date on assurance.
Ram Bahadur Mahat, chairperson of Jumla Civil society said government just acts as being serious when there is human casualty. And they assure for correction of technical aspects also however, the output is always ineffective and the sequence of accidents persists. In this case Tara Air’s De Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin-otter with registration ‘9N-AEV’ crash landed at Jumla Airport this Saturday.
Mahat claimed that the main reason to devise Karnali region airports insecure is technical problems seen in the aircraft and short runway length. He affirmed geographical remoteness and narrow space has led high risk of accidents in this region. He further commented Ministry of Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation Authority to pay special attention for the necessary enhancement of the airports.
