Achham-Dhangadi flight initiated

Sanfebagar-Dhangadi flight has initiated for first time from Friday onward. The flight from Sanfebagar of Achham to Dhangadi in Kailali started from Friday after sanfebagar airport completed runway blacktopping work.

Summit airline which had previously successfully completed a test flight with its LET L-410 aircraft to Sanfebagar airport started commercial operation in the sector from Friday.

The airline is operating 1 flight a week in the beginning and is expecting to increase 4 weekly flights which will be determined by passenger occupancy. Fare of 3350 Nepalese rupees for the route has been allocated.

The flight has been regarded as the first flight from Dhangadi airport to any Hilly region airport of province 7 and the flight duration is of 17 minutes.

Currently, Nepal Airlines (NAC) has been conducting 2 weekly flights to Nepalgunj from the airport.

After regular flight at Sanfebagar airport, locals of Achham, Bajura and Doti have been benefited and it is expected to increase now.

Sanfebagar Airport is considered to be the most suitable for operating aircraft in hilly area. Achham is the only district where two airports (Kamal Bazar and Sanfebagar airports) are situated.

The construction work of Sanfebagar airport was initiated in 2024BS and came into operation in 2034BS and had been out of operation for past 13 years.

Sanfebagar Airport is located at an elevation of 1955 ft above mean sea level. The airport previously possessed a single earthen runway of a length of 517 meters (1,700 ft) and 30 meters wide aligned to 030 degrees and 210 degrees. The airport can accommodate the STOL single engine aircraft like Cessna Grand Caravan C208, etc.

Airport now has been prime source of transport to take tourists to the tourism destination in Ramarshan, Vaidyanath, Bunigadi and Badimalika of Panchdeval Bajura and Khaptad area.

The airport in the region is also expected to boost the economy. Moreover, the airfield could also serve the nearby Bayalpata Hospital which caters to the medical needs of patients from six surrounding districts. Currently, driving from Dhangadhi to reach Sanfebagar from the East-West Highway takes about eight hours non-stop.
