Tribhuvan International Airport; Experienced by anyone who has walked around it so far
KATHMANDU, 26 JULY 2016
No wonder while it comes to the grading, Tribhuvan International Airport of Nepal always comes to end of list of most desired airports around the world. We have seen this airport getting listed into group of top 10 worst airports of the world and most adversely it stands as first bad impression for the air travellers entering Nepal for the very first time. This airport shows a dirty impression for the travellers of our beautiful country. The ill infrastructures including the lack of resources and no proper management system aid this airport go down the list of proper airports.
Now let us talk about those street dogs roaming around the passenger waiting terminal of the airport. A black dog that has been seen since 2 years is still wandering around the airport. The domestic terminal has shifted to new beautiful terminal recently and so have the dogs too. They have also been shifted to this new terminal contributing in degrading the beauty of the new terminal.
These dogs stand side by side to the passengers on line at the counters. Many of the passengers are scared of the dogs and were found running away from them. These dogs can cause harm to anyone, any time. The question as always arises, why the authorized authority of TIA is so blind in these aspects; why are they always very back while it comes to the matter of beauty and standard as well as safety of an airport. I am sure the passengers who encounter these street dogs are more afraid of those dogs roaming around them than flying on the aircraft of Nepal. This is a real safety issue. Civil aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) also should consider ample amount of time to discuss this matter and bring a permanent solution.
There are numerous things that can strike our mind while talking about the negative aspects of TIA. The other major problem here is the availability of infrastructures. The passenger waiting terminal can be seen with broken chairs and damaged sittings which have not been repaired or removed since long. The management authorities have drawn no attention towards it resulting those dirty sights to remain there spoiling the beauty of the airport.
TIA not only lacks the lighting system for aiding navigation for pilots but also lacks the appropriate lightening system inside the passenger waiting terminal. The dark environment definitely makes passengers feel like they are waiting to board something else instead of an aircraft. This adds a very bad impression on the travellers. They can easily interpret the misery of the only international airport of our country.
The foul smell coming from the restrooms and lack of cleanliness inside them makes everyone using them hold their breath for that instance. The foul smell and dirty condition of those restrooms are totally intolerable. Not only inside but also outside of the restrooms on the terminals of airport dirt and unhygienic scenario are not uncommon.
The behavior shown by the ground staffs of the airport has caused uninvited trouble to many passengers. It is also not uncommon to hear a lot of complaints of passengers regarding the delay of luggage and being misbehaved by them.
Tribhuvan International Airport fails on every aspect of standard like cleanliness, safety and management. A lot of private companies operating inside this airport have also paid no attention in uplifting the standard on these aspects of the only international airport of Nepal. The government and CAAN sits blind and seems like the management of the airport has no plans and vision to upgrade this airport any better than one of the world’s worst airports.
