International Air Transport Association new policy to reduce luggage size
International Air Transport Association (IATA) working with major airlines companies including Boeing and Airbus are forwarding new policy to shrink the current standard luggage size. The new guidelines was approved on Tuesday and forwards the new sizes of the carry-on bag of 21.5 inches tall, 13.5 inches wide and 7.5 inches deep (55cm×34cm×19 cm). The proposed standard size will make the luggage 21% slimmer.
Major airlines including: Air China, Qatar, Emirates, Cathay Pacific, China Southern, Avianca, Lufthansa and Azul have already decided to implement the new policy. 40 airlines across different nations are interested in the idea. The luggage manufacturers have already began producing the bags according to new standard sizes. The changes in the policy may be implemented within a year. The passengers now need to buy new luggage but will be free from any concern about their luggage sizes.
Aviation travel consultant expresses that once again airlines have managed to make their problems, the passenger’s problem. The official also states it’s not mandatory that each airlines should change their standard carry-on bags sizes.
