Kathmandu, October 14 — The national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), has announced the cancellation of its Kathmandu–Guangzhou flight scheduled for October 19 due to internal reasons.
In an official statement released on Monday, NAC spokesperson Subas Dangi informed that the flight, which was part of the airline’s regular schedule, has been called off citing internal operational factors. The corporation assured that all affected passengers are being accommodated through alternative arrangements.
According to the airline, the Kathmandu–Guangzhou–Kathmandu route has seen steady ticket sales. For the October 16 Kathmandu–Guangzhou flight, 68 passengers had already booked their tickets, while the October 17 Guangzhou–Kathmandu flight had 41 confirmed passengers. Similarly, 93 tickets have been sold for the October 23 Kathmandu–Guangzhou flight, and 20 for the return flight on October 24.
The airline further clarified that some media reports suggesting the cancellation was due to a low number of passengers are inaccurate. NAC emphasized that Guangzhou is a newly launched destination for Nepal Airlines, and promotional activities are still underway to raise awareness among travelers. The airline stated that it remains committed to developing and promoting the new route to enhance connectivity between Nepal and southern China.
NAC also urged the public not to misinterpret the cancellation as a sign of weak passenger demand but as part of its ongoing operational management and route development strategy.
