Amid the ongoing FIFA World Cup 22, American Airlines has announced special flights to Phoenix Sky Harbor in response to upcoming February’s top sporting events. The carrier is adding 91 more flights to ferry sports fans to/from Phoenix ahead of Super Bowl for five days.
The Dallas/Fort Worth-based American Airlines will offer increased frequencies between Phoenix and 22 US Cities. Starting February 9 to February 14, the airline will temporarily increase its flight count to Phoenix to accommodate more fans for WM Phoenix Open in Scottsdale and Super Bowl LVII in Glendale. The city of Phoenix is hosting Super Bowl LVII on February 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium and the WM Phoenix Open from February 9 through February 12 in Scottsdale.
Both games, the world’s best-attended golf tournament and the other a renowned football championship game will receive hundreds of thousands of fans during the second week of February. American Airlines will increase flights to cater to huge numbers of sports fans around the US in Phoenix.
More flights, more seats
With special sports flights, football and golf fans will have more flight options and seats to attend their grand tournament. American Airlines will unite fans from around the nation with easy and nonstop connections to the Phoenix region. Jason Reisinger, AA’s Managing Director of Global Network Planning, stated, “Whether you want to cheer on your favorite team as they score a touchdown or go wild as your preferred golfer hits a hole-in-one on the 16th hole, American Airlines is offering sports fans, more flights and more seats to see the action in person.”
The US flag carrier is thrilled to ferry sports enthusiasts to its Phoenix hub for two grand events. American Airlines is the anchor airline of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, with 33% of the market share at PHX. PHX Airport is the primary gateway to Phoenix in Arizona and AA’s Rocky Mountain hub.
AA’s added flights during the Super Bowl
Among AA’s 91 additional flights during the Super Bowl period, the Phoenix-Dallas Fort Worth route will receive the highest no. of flights at 49. In total, the PHX-DFW route will see 147AA flights in five days. The next busiest route is Phoenix-Chicago, with 110 flight frequencies, both ways, from Feb 01-14, 2023. American Airlines will operate 37 more flights between its Rocky Mountain hub and the hub for the Midwest.
Likewise, over the February 9 to 14 stretch, American Airlines will offer six extra flight services between Phoenix-Sky Harbor and its primary Northeast domestic hub at Philadelphia. The other airports that will see AA’s increased frequencies from/to Phoenix around the Super Bowl include Albuquerque, Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Charlotte, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Omaha, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, Oklahoma City, Seattle, Tampa, Washington, and Raleigh. Among these airports, American Airlines has its hub at Charlotte, Los Angeles, New York (JFK and La Guardia), and Washington-Reagan.
