British Airways has introduced a special light-blue livery for one of its Airbus A320neo aircraft. The new look was displayed on September 7, 2021, at the Heathrow base of the airlines, during the launch of the carrier’s ‘BA Better World’ sustainability program.
The British airline partnered with Airbus to paint the livery of the most modern and fuel-efficient aircraft with the new sustainability program launched by the airlines. The national flag carrier explained the program as ‘most important journey yet,’ and with this scheme, British Airlines is looking to lead the way in creating a sustainable airline industry.
Also, the national flag carrier announced a new collaboration with BP to source a sustainable aviation fuel program for all its operations between London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh in the UK COP26 conference. The collaboration will provide a lifecycle carbon reduction of up to 80% compared to the traditional jetliner fuel.

From now on the British Airways customers will be able to purchase sustainable aviation fuel from the duo-collaboration of BP and BA to reduce their carbon footprint in combination with carbon offsets, setting foot in the environment-friendly aviation industry movement.
Airbus A320neo Carrying ‘BA Better World’ Program
The aircraft shouldering the ‘BA Better World’ sustainability program that will introduce the eco-friendly fuel program is registered as G-TTNA. The aircraft is one of the 15 A320neos that British Airlines uses in its operation; the national flag carrier also has a further seven orders of similar variants from the Airbus.
The most modern and advanced Airbus A320neo 180-seat twinjets have an average age of 2.3 years, but the aircraft carrying the ‘BA Better World’ program livery is a little more senior than the other Airbus A320neo aircraft in the airline’s fleet. The G-TTNA registered aircraft is three and half years old; the A320neo aircraft was the maiden aircraft to join the British Airway’s fleet and became part of the family on April 10, 2018. As the aircraft was the first of the A320neo product line to operate with the national carrier, it was specially chosen for shouldering the special livery that marks the revolutionizing stage of the aviation industry that was till this date traditional fuel dependent.
G-TTNA received its new livery in Ostrava, Czech Republic; after final touches in the warehouse, the aircraft took off from Ostrava and arrived on September 7, 2021; the Airbus A320neo had flown to the warehouse on August 25.
BA and BP Partnership
The launch of the British Airline’s ‘BA Better World’ program perfectly ties with the upcoming COP26 UN Climate Change Conference; the COP26 program will be held from October 31 to November 12, 2021, in Glasgow, Scotland. As part of the program, British Airways has forged a partnership with British Petroleum, also the Oneworld partner of the BA, Qanats Partners also had signed a similar program with BP to explore sustainable fuel back in January 2021.
The duo-partnership will oversee the construction of a dedicated plant for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel(SAF) in Humberside, UK. The partnership will also allow British Airways to source SAF to use on its flight from London, Heathrow, and Gatwick to Edinburgh and Glasgow during the upcoming COP26 summit.
British Airways has been a long leading carrier in the aviation industry for its efforts to decarbonize aircraft and look for an alternative solution that won’t put the environment at risk. The national flag carrier became the first airline to report the carbon footprint in 1992. Similarly, it became the first airline to participate in the UK Emission Trading in 2002. The airline’s parent company, IAG, was the first-ever airline group in the world to commit to the ‘Net Zero CO2 Emission Program’ by 2050, which shows the clear dedication of the airline group, which operates with a commitment to put sustainability at the heart of its business. Following the ‘Net Zero CO2 Emission Program’ commitment, British Airways became the first major airline to voluntarily offset all emissions from its domestic flights since January 2020.
