A Mil MI-8 Russian helicopter belonging to the Main Border Guard Directorate of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) crashed in the Tajikistan border, which was flying with Russian tourists on August 4, 2021.
According to Asia-Plus, the pilot was killed in the accident, while the other four occupants were injured. The Mi-8 was crashed in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO)’s Vanj district. The disaster occurred near Poi Mazor village when an MI-8 aircraft attempted to land on the Khirson (Bear) Glacier.
According to the reports, the helicopter was flying to take seven tourists from Moscow. Contact was lost as they climbed the glacier in the Poimazor canyon of the Vanch district of Tajikistan Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous territory on July 26, 2021.

The Russian Embassy in Tajikistan later reported this. The tourists sent a signal for help on July 28 but then soon stopped communicating. From that day, the search for the person is going on.

“The embassy has been in communication with the specified group, the Russian tourist’s relatives, officials from the travel agency, and Tajik colleagues participating in the rescue operation since the occurrence,” the embassy said. The lost person’s coworkers aided the search. The expedition organizers from Moscow requested assistance from the mountain rescue center of the tour operators’ association.
The helicopter took off on August 4 in pursuit of tourists and crashed while landing on the glacier. Four passengers were hurt, and the plane’s pilot, Sergei Tyutin, was killed.
