Frontier Airlines, a low-cost carrier, has announced the addition of seven new routes between Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to key US cities, including Tampa. The new routes are part of a bigger push to expand in North Texas.
With an introductory price of $29, the Denver-based carrier is expanding its North Texas route with flights to Phoenix, San Francisco, Durango, Colorado, Tampa, and San Diego. In the United States, this might put American Airlines and Southwest Airlines out of business.

Frontier will begin flying to San Diego three times a week on September 7, with flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The flights to San Francisco will begin on September 8 and run four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Flights to Phoenix will start on November 1 and run four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, the Tampa flights will operate four times a week. Frontier will begin offering nonstop flights from DFW to Buffalo, New York, Durango, Colorado, and Hartford, Connecticut, in April.
The routes will fly once to four times per week, catering to leisure travelers who are willing to forego the convenience of frequent departures in exchange for a lower price. For those who can get a few the discounted tickets, introductory fares will start at $29 each.
Daniel Shurz, Frontier’s senior vice president, told Arnold, “We think there are a lot of markets from Dallas where the average prices are high.” “There is a demand for visiting friends and relatives in a city that is growing so quickly.”
“We’re excited to keep growing with a new set of 21 nonstop routes that significantly expand our service in three important markets: Atlanta, Dallas, and Las Vegas,” he added. We’re continuing to look for routes where our ‘Low Fares Done Right’ service can provide the most value to customers regarding affordability and convenience. Today’s announcement reaffirms our belief in travel’s ongoing recovery throughout 2021 and beyond.”
Frontier, based in Denver, has had a limited presence in DFW in the past. Frontier now provides 13 nonstop connections out of DFW, with additional routes planned for 2021 to Atlanta, Cancun, Philadelphia, and Salt Lake City. The company now operates an average of eight to nine flights each day from DFW. The seven new lines, all of which are expected to be operational by April 2022, will bring the total number of routes to 20. With an average age of about four years, Frontier’s current all-Airbus fleet is among the world’s youngest.
According to the airline’s official website, Frontier and federal law require all customers and crew members to wear a face-covering throughout their journey. In addition, anyone flying with Frontier must sign a health waiver during the check-in procedure. Frontier introduced comprehensive health and safety changes in 2020 that touches every phase of a customer’s travel adventure with the airline since they are concerned about the health and safety of their customers and team members.
Some fliers haven’t always been fans of ultra-low-cost flying. The airline only operates a few times per week and costs extra for standard services on other airlines, such as carry-on luggage. However, leisure travelers are drawn to airlines because they can offer lower rates than larger competitors, starting as low as $59 each way for certain initial fares and as low as $29 for others.
The two major airlines of America, American Airlines and Southwest, tickets from the area cost on average $269 in the fourth quarter of 2020, somewhat more than the national average, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
