IndiGo Offering 10% Discount To Vaccinated Passengers

IndiGo has launched a special 10% discount scheme for its vaccinated passengers on travel dates starting 1st August, in a move to boost India’s vaccination rate, aiming for a gradual recovery.

Passengers who have received either one or two jabs are eligible for the discount. However, the airline said it is applicable on the base fare only and for those aged 18 years and above who are in India at the time of booking.

IndiGo has become the first airline in India to offer such discounts to those passengers who have taken the COVID-19 vaccine. However, this offer may not be available on some routes or dates.

Passengers must enter their Beneficiary ID, printed on their vaccine certificate, issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, to verify their status while booking the flight. They also have to show their vaccine certificate at the airport. Alternatively, passengers can use India’s contact tracing app, Aarogya Setu, to prove that they are vaccinated at the check-in counter/boarding gate.

In addition to this, many restaurants in India are also offering special discounts to limited customers vaccinated against COVID-19. Around 19% of the population have received one dose, and only 4% have received both doses in India so far.

In a press release, IndiGo Chief Strategy & Revenue Officer, Sanjay Kumar said:
“Being the largest airline in the country, we feel it is our responsibility to contribute to the national vaccination drive by encouraging more people towards this common goal. This offer will not only strengthen their resolve towards vaccination but also ensure that they can travel safely at affordable fares with IndiGo.”

He also added that the low-cost carrier is committed to offering an on-time, hassle-free travel experience to its passengers.

Such offers to vaccinated passengers have been adopted by airlines globally. For example, in multiple European countries, airlines offer their passengers a chance to get vaccinated on arrival at the airport.
