Colombian flag carrier Avianca has operated its inaugural flight from San Salvador International Airport, El Salvador, to Ontario International Airport, California, last week on Thursday, July 1, 2021.
The first flight departed El Salvador International Airport Saint Oscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez, El Salvador at 19:22 local time as flight AV530 bound to Ontario International Airport.
The flight was operated by an Airbus A319, with registration N522TA. The history-making inaugural flight had an occupation of 90%, with more than 100 passengers on board.

Alan D. Wapner, President of the Ontario International Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, stated of this historic flight: “We’ve been looking forward to welcoming Avianca Airlines, its customers, and crew onboard to Ontario International Airport. We are sure that Avianca would benefit greatly from our contemporary, low-cost international gateway, thriving local economy, and very loyal customer base.”

The Bogota-based carrier will operate three weekly flights between Ontario and its capital El Salvador every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
About flight
The flight AV530 will depart from San Salvador at 19:10 local time, arriving at Ontario International at 11:30 local time. At the same time, the return flight AV531 will leave Ontario at 1:15 and land back in El Salvador at 7:05 local time the following day.
Commenting on its historical connection between El Salvador and Ontario in the western United States, Avianca’s General Director, Rolando Damas, said:
“We recognize the significance of linking North America with El Salvador and our Central American customers, particularly for people visiting family and friends. We are confident that this new service would contribute to more tourism in both El Salvador and California.”
Airbus A319 for Ontario
Avianca will deploy its Airbus A319s on flights to Ontario. Avianca’s Airbus A319s are configured with 120 seats in a two-class configuration with business and economy class seats. It will operate from Terminal 2 at Ontario International as it is a Star Alliance member.
Ontario is Avianca’s tenth destination in the United States. It operates regular flights to Los Angeles, Dallas, Fort Worth, Fort Lauderdale, San Francisco, New York, John F. Kennedy, Miami, Orlando, Washington Dulles, and Houston.

In addition, Avianca is also looking to add new links from these destinations. It relaunched its connection flights between Miami and San Jose along with San Pedro Sula this month.
