United Airlines announced an order for 270 Airbus and Boeing aircraft on Tuesday. This is the largest aircraft order in the airline’s history and is worth $33 billion in list price.
Boeing scored 200 orders for its Boeing 737 MAX jets comprising 150 737 MAX 10s and 50 737 MAX 8s. In addition, Airbus also secured an order for 70 A321neos, taking the commitments for the type to 120. United had ordered 50 Airbus A321XLRs back in December 2019.

This order has doubled the airline’s commitments for the Boeing 737 MAX jets. Having already taken delivery of 30 aircraft MAX jets, the airline has commitments for 350 more Boeing 737 MAX.
With today’s order of 150 737-10s and 50 737-8s, United Airlines positions its fleet for the next phase of the market recovery.

Commenting on this record order, United’s Andrew Nocella said:
“It’s a plan that’s a nose-to-tail plan for the future, and it’s something we’ve actually been working on for many, many years.”
United placed this order in a move to replace older aircraft, with Boeing 757-200s, Airbus A319s, A320s, and expanding its fleet.

The airline also states that these new narrowbodies will be equipped with high-definition seat-back screens and power outlets for every seat, along with high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity and room for everyone’s carry-on luggage.
In addition, LED mood lighting and a more spacious cabin layout will be highly prioritized. In a statement, United’s CEO Scott Kirby said:
“By adding and upgrading this many aircraft so quickly with our new signature interiors, we’ll combine friendly, helpful service with the best experience in the sky, all across our premier global network.”
