A Southwest Boeing 737-700 and a Cargolux Boeing 747-8 freighter collided on the ground at Chicago O’Hare Airport on Saturday evening.
The Cargolux Boeing 747-8F was taxiing to depart from Chicago-O’Hare International Airport as CV9796 to Luxembourg when it collided with the Southwest Boeing 737.
The Southwest Boeing 737-700 had landed as flight WN2750 from Fort Lauderdale and was waiting for its gate to open up when the incident took place.
The Cargolux 747’s right-hand wingtip collided with the left-hand winglet of the Southwest 737, resulting in the immediate cancellation of both flights as both aircraft sustained minor damage.
The Cargolux Boeing 747-8F, with registration LX-VCE (named City of Echternach), was delivered to the airline in May 2012 and is currently 9.1 years old.

Whereas the Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700, with registration N218WN, was delivered to the airline in July 2005 and is currently 16 years old. This aircraft is configured in a single-class configuration with 143 economy class seats.
