Brussels Airlines resumed its flights to the United States yesterday after an absence of 15 months. The Belgian flag carrier had not operated any flights to the US since March last year.
Brussels Airlines operated its first transatlantic flight in 15 months on Monday, 14th June.
The flight SN501 departed Brussels at 10:43, arriving at New York JFK at 1:00 local time. It will operate three-weekly flights to New York JFK.
In addition to this, the Belgian carrier will also fly to Washington four times a week. However, the flights to Montreal are still suspended. In a statement, Brussels Airlines spokesperson Maaike Andries said:
“This is a symbolic milestone in our relaunch. It has been 15 months, that has been a difficult period for everyone in the aviation sector. Today is another big step towards a more normal operational life and more freedom.”
An airline spokesperson also said that sales for the Washington flights are going well, whereas the ticket sales for JFK flights are a bit slower for the time being due to travel restrictions.
Although Brussels Airlines resumed transatlantic flight, Belgium is still listed as a Level 4 destination by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), indicating “a very high level of COVID-19,” discouraging passengers from traveling.
