National flag carrier, the Nepal Airlines Corporation, has been forced to suspend flights in the skies of Europe, following the EU blacklist. Passengers who had booked tickets from Cyprus have suffered from this suspension.
The Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) had sold tickets to Cyprus to repatriate Nepalese workers stranded due to COVID-19. Nepal Airlines spokesperson reported AvitaionNepal that they would be allowed to fly as it was only a rescue flight and not a regular flight. Tickets have been sold to 193 stranded Nepalese workers from Cyprus and 67 from Israel.
This is the third time that the government has postponed flights from Israel and Cyprus to repatriate Nepalese stranded abroad due to the COVID-19. The Nepalese Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel issued a statement, stating that the joint flight to Israel and Cyprus for June 29 and 30 has been cancelled . Embassy has already published the list of passengers, in which there are 67 from Israel and 193 from Cyprus on the flight of Nepal Airlines.
But when the passengers tried to get the ticket on Sunday, the flight was canceled and the ticket was not provided. When contacted the embassy, a person from embassy said, “Nepalese Airlines could not fly to Europe because it is blacklisted. He said a decision would be reached by tomorrow, adding that permission had not been granted to Cyprus. He also said that Nepal has requested for permission to use Nepal Airlines for rescue rather than commercial flight.”
Not only that Nepal Airlines is still claiming to fly USA to to repatriate Nepalese from there.
