SpiceJet operates cargo flight to Kathmandu to bring critical medical equipment

SpiceJet has operated its first cargo flight on the Mumbai-Kathmandu- Mumbai route today, carrying critical medical equipment and COVID-19 related medical supplies.

A Spice jet Boeing 737 aircraft ‘VT-SGX’ Flight SG7293 arrived Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu at around 03:14 P.M. today. The aircraft had departed Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai at 12:50 P.M. The total one leg journey in the sector is around 02:10 hours.

The flight was charted by the private firm and is being conducted as a special charter flight amidst the ‘COVID-19’ lockdown to airlift 4148 K.G. of the medical equipment’s and supplies for Corona prevention and cure in the country.

During the flight suspension, Nepal has not allowed international flights on its sky except for those which arrived for humanitarian grounds. A number of foreign airlines arrived in Nepal to evacuate foreign nationals from Nepal after Nepal enforced flight suspensions. Domestic airlines recently mobilized to evacuate foreign nationals who were stranded in different parts of the country after the nationwide lockdown was imposed since March 24.

It is the fourth time that the Government of Nepal extended the deadline of both domestic and international flight suspension. Earlier, the government had decided to extend the deadline of flight suspension until May 15, which was further extended till June 14.
