One of the busiest domestic airports in Nepal, Bharatpur Airport located at Southern belts and near Kathmandu is going to shut its overall operation for the airport runway renovation process. The airport will be shut for 10 days starting next Sunday, 1st of December to 10th of December. As the runway of the airport is being blacktopped no flights will be able to depart and land on the airport for 10 days.
The runway and parking of the airport presently is in deteriorating condition and even the runway has the pot holes. Therefore new runway overlaying task would be done during this period as well as parking and apron would be renovated. Although, this work is being carried out at night presently, the cold temperature will affect the black topping because of which the remaining tasks have been scheduled to be completed at day during the closure of the airport.
Buddha Air and Yeti Airlines have been operating 5-5 flights a day from Bharatpur Airport to Kathmandu and 1-1 flights to Pokhara. As an alternate carries can use Meghauli Aiport for operating which lies just a few kilometers away from the airport and has an unpaved runway of 3500 feets.
The airport will able to handle departing and landing aircraft efficiently with the renovation of the airport. The renovation will also aid in promoting the ‘Tourism Year 2020’ as Bharatpur, Chitwan is also the most popular destinations of domestic as well as international tourists.
