The leading operator of STOL – Short Take-Off and Landing in Nepal ‘Summit Air’ is going to add another aircraft into its fleet of LET L410 aircraft. The carrier has a fleet of Czech built four LET L410 aircraft presently. The new aircraft will be the 7th purchase of the same type aircraft for the carrier. The aircraft will be brought on a ferry flight from Russia to Kathmandu by crew members of Summit Air.
A crew member of 2 pilots and an engineer have already flown to Russia in command of Capt. A.D. Sherpa according to a source. If all the ferry flight processes run smoothly, the aircraft can be expected to touch down Kathmandu with next week.
Summit Air started scheduled operation from October 2014 after introduction of factory new LET 410 UVPE-20 to its fleet from its base in Kathmandu. After that, it has brought 6 similar type of aircraft for its fleet already and only four of them are now operating. Summit Air has been in operations since February 24‚ 2011. Summit Air started its operation with two Cessna grand caravan as air taxi operator from its Surkhet base and previously with the name ‘Goma Air. Two other aircraft of same type previously belonging to Summit Air were lost in two fatal crashes in Lukla Airport.
Presently it has been flying to various STOL destinations and chartered and scheduled flights to Surkhet, Nepalgunj, Lukla, Phalpu, Rumjatar, Tumlingtar, Pokhara, Simikot, Jumla, and Bajura, Taplejung. It also conducts charter and cargo flights to Juphal Airport, Dolpa. Summit Air has also recently marked a successful test flight to Taplejung, Lamidada, and various other airports.
