The 56th conference of Director General of Civil Aviation, Asia Pacific Region conducted in Kathmandu with the participation of delegates from 43 different countries has been wrapped up for this year. The conference started 19 of August and had a formal ending today. The next conference has been decided to be conducted in Bangladesh in November for the year 2020.
For the conference, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) council president Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu had stayed for a week in Nepal. He had closely observed and inspected various aspects of Nepal Aviation during his stay and was made aware about the safety improvements achieved in recent years by Nepal. This has been considered as an important achievement by Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). During his visit, the president had also paid a visit to A330 aircraft museum at Sinamangal, Kathmandu.
The ICAO conference had been conducted twice before in 1978 and 1998 in Nepal. Nepal had been delisted from the ICAO’s safety audit and concern, in the occasion of which Nepal had proposed to conduct the conference in Nepal.
In the conference, ICAO president was handed the ICAO flag that summited ‘Sagarmatha’ (Mount Everest) in on the 75th Anniversary of establishment of ICAO. The conference was also called with a motive of improving coordination among industry stakeholders to increase capacity of Aviation in Asia Pacific region, home to some fastest-growing economies.
This year around 400 delegated from 43 different countries had participated in the conference conducted at Hotel Soltee of Kathmandu.
