The Government of Nepal has announced to operate Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for 24 hours a day from next fiscal year. Currently, the sole international airport is operating for 18 hours a day.
The government has allocated NRs. 15.85 Billion for aviation enhancement. Finance Minister Yuwaraj Khatiwada on the budget presentation announced that TIA would be operational for 24 hours a day. Also, he also mentioned that TIA will be converted into a boutique airport.
As per the budget allocation, infrastructure of domestic airports including Biratnagar, Janakpur, Simara, Nepalgunj, Dang and Dhangadhi will be enhanced. Probability of construction of new airport at Surkhet will be taken into consideration.
TIA will also be converted into an advertisement-free zone within a few months. The TIA management has initiated to add more than 50 wi-fi access points, especially in the waiting, departure and arrival areas, to facilitate internet access in the terminal. Travelers will be able to entertain free and unlimited internet access thereafter.
The authority also has plans to add one civil service point, where travellers who need services related to passport, visa or orientation will be provided so.
