Locals at Bhimdutta Municipality-16 at Kanchanpur have urged to bring Majhgan Airport in operation. Locals have even created committee to pressurize the concerned authority so as to bring the airport into operation.
The locals have stated that the airport can be alternative to Geta Airport (Dhangadhi Airport) and have urged to bring the airport in operation.
The committee organized a press meet at Kanchanpur and stated about the request to re-operate the airport. They also stated about various level of discussion and interaction going on with concerned bodies, organizations and stakeholders and others in order to bring airport in operation.
They have also stated to have discussion with local representative and local administration officials to bring the airport in operation.
The airport which had been operating before 2 decades had been closed stating about security issues from 2056 BS and locals stated that every political parties assure about bringing airport into operation during election time however, the airport has not been in operation till now. Thus, they have now created a committee to pressurize the stakeholders and other authorities to bring airport into operation.
Locals of Kanchanpur have to travel either to Dhangadhi Airport or to Nepalgunj airport in order to take flight service for past 2 decades.
Committee officials stated that there will be enough passengers if the airport could be brought into operation and stated that the airport should be brought into operation by upgrading the infrastructure.
The airport which has been established at around 53 bigha land has now turned into grazing land.
Locals believe that operation of the airport could boost up tourism in the area as various tourism destinations like Sukhlaphant conservation area, Betkot lake, Asia’s second largest suspension bridge etc are located in the area.
