Rajbiraj airport back in operation

Rajbiraj airport which had been out of operation has restarted operation from Sunday onwards. Shree airlines has started the flight to the airport.

The airport is now set to be in operation throughout the week as Shree Airlines has started the operation to the airport and has stated to operate throughout a week.

The airlines has conducted flights on Sunday as well as Monday.

Shree airline is the only operating airline to the airport and the flight from the airport has made easy for people of Siraha, Saptari, Udaypur as well as tourist from neighboring country India.

Shree Airlines started flight to the airport from June 24 of last year. The airline started operation with 5 flights a week but at the end of 2018, the airline reduced the flight to 3 weekly flights.

Later in April 2019, the airlines completely shut down their service due to repair and maintenance of the aircraft according to the airline.

Closure of the flight had created problem for locals of the district as well as neighboring district as they were compelled to go to Biratnagar and Janakpur for flight services.

The Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), late Mr. Rabindra Adhikari on May 24, last year had inaugurated the resumption of Rajbiraj airport in Saptari after closure of around one and a half decades in between the period of its establishment in 2016 B.S.

The airport resumed operation some 10 years ago by Tara air but the flight couldn’t continue for more than a month.
Rajbiraj Airport was repaired and upgraded at the cost of NRs. 30.3 million. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, the then transport minister Ganeshman Singh had laid the foundation stone of the airport 59 years ago.

Shree airlines own 2 Bombardier CRJ-200 series aircraft and 2 Bombardier CRJ-700 series aircraft with helicopters in its fleet.
