Simikot Airport located at Humla district is set to continue renovation work.
The airport renovation was set to be completed last year however, due to frequent snowfall the project was hindered and delayed.
The contract was signed on 3rd quarter 2018 and the renovation was set to be started by end of the year but the heavy snowfall disrupted the work and is set to be started now.
The apron, helipad, taxiway is going to be renovated now as the snow has melted. The project is going to cost around 270 million.
The only transportation medium to people of Humla, Simikot airport has been frequently facing disruption in operation of flights. The airport had been closed for long in last winter due to heavy snowfall and recently due to frequent rainfall.
Disruption in flight operation has created problem to the people residing in Humla as the district is the only district which is not connected by road network and lack of proper land transport facility has made airways as a primary means of transportation to them.
Various other airports namely Talcha airport of Mugu, Khalanga Airport are also in the verge of coming back into operation after various levels people and officials have been working on to bring the airport back in operation.
Simikot Airport is located at an elevation of 9,751 ft (2,971 m) above mean sea level. The airport possesses a Single asphalt runway of a length of 650 meters aligned to 010 degrees and 280 degrees.
