The flight frequencies at Nepalgunj airport will be increased following Dhangadi airport closure for a period of one month for accommodating the runway rehabilitation project.
Dhangadi airport has been scheduled to remain close from May 6 to June 4 (Baisakh 22- Jestha 21) for the blacktopping project of the runway.
Buddha Air has planned to add 2 flights to Nepalgunj after Dhangadi airport will be closed. The carrier has decided to add two flights at morning and evening from May 5,2019 focusing to provide air services to passengers constantly.
Likewise, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has also planned to increase flight frequencies to Biratnagar.
Nawaraj Koirala, Assistant spokesperson of NAC stated that the corporation would add 3 flights to Biratnagar as it has been operating 3 flights weekly on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday between Kathmandu-Dhangadi. Koirala stated that the corporation will operate 10 flights weekly between Kathmandu-Biratnagar from May 5 while it has been operating 7 flights weekly at present.
Yeti Airlines, which has not operated flights to Dhangadi, has planned to increase flight frequencies in Nepalgunj according to passenger demands.
Shree Airlines also planned to increase flight number as well.
Tej Bahadur Budhathapa, chief of airport stated that it has also been decided to request the chief office of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to publish the notice for all airline companies for information.
Generally, the runway overlay work should be done in every 10 years periods. However, Dhangadi airport is about to get overlay on the runway after 14 years.
In the investment of about NRs. 180 Million, the extension of Parking area and renovation work of the runway will be initiated. According to CAAN, the runway of 60m wide and 1800 m long will be blacktopped.
Likewise, two proposals have been presented at the Investment Summit held at Kathmandu on 15th and 16th Chaitra for converting Dhangadhi Airport into a regional airport.
The Investment Board Nepal (IBN) informed that two proposals came after the board published the deadline of 7th Baisakh. The time has now been extended to another 1 month.
Dhangadhi Regional Airport will feature 3000 meters long and 60-meter wide runway while the taxiway will be of length 1800 meter and width 23 meter. Dhangadhi Airport is the only big airport situated in the far western region which has facilitated citizens of 9 districts.
