The masterplan for the renovation project of Nepalgunj Airport has been prepared with an estimated cost of NRs. 12 Billions.
The project is about enhancing the Nepalgunj airport to an international level. The masterplan was made public on 10th Baisakh.
The first phase of the project includes the construction of infrastructure worth NRs. 20 crore. As per the Detailed Project Report (DPR), additional NRs. 2.8 Billion will be used in the second phase to enhance the capacity of the airport.
This first phase is expected to complete within 2 years while the second phase by 2025. The third and fourth phase of the project is kept for the next 20 years which will require NRs. 7.4 Billion.
The first phase of the project has been initiated as per the masterplan. 100 bigha additional land is required for the enhancement of Nepalgunj Airport.
Nepalgunj Airport is the busiest airport of Nepal in the west which operates 9 flights to Kathmandu. Flights to hilly and mountainous regions are also frequent from this airport.
At present, flights to the western and far-western region of the country are being carried out from the airport. And it is one of the busiest domestic airports in Nepal acting as a hub of western Nepal.
Nepal Airlines, Buddha Air, Shree Airlines, and Yeti Airlines are performing flight to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu (Tribhuvan International Airport) and Tara Air, Sita Air, and Summit Air are conducting flight to rural areas from Nepalgunj airport. Around 90 flights during peak seasons are being carried out at the airport.
