Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has instructed airlines conducting flights to Delhi from Kathmandu to increase flight frequency rather than focusing on generating benefit from the shutdown of Jet Airways operation.
The aviation regulatory body of Nepal took a concern as the airlines increased ticket fare heavily after the termination of flights from Indian carrier Jet Airways. The fare now stands at Nrs20000 while it was Nrs8000 for one way flight.
Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), Air India and IndiGo are airlines conducting Ktm-Delhi flights. CAAN conducted a meeting with the representatives of these 3 airlines and requested to increase flight frequency. Besides, CAAN also instructed airlines to not increase fare as only one flight per day has been withdrawn due to Jet Airways being entangled in financial crisis.
The other airlines must provide efficient and sound service to passengers as the demand for Delhi flights is increasing, added CAAN officials. CAAN has already informed Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) to look into the situation.
NAC, IndiGo and Air India are instructed to increase their flights and become competitive. The current increased ticket fare is not acceptable, says CAAN. However, airlines responded that the fare was not increased on all tickets but only on 35 per cent of expensive tickets only.
NAC has already announced to operate 14 weekly flights to Delhi from 1st May as it is at present operating 11 weekly flights.
