Himalaya Airlines, the private international carrier of Nepal is incurring yearly loss of over Nrs. 1 Billion after being unable to operate flights with optimum capacity. The airlines’ loss since it came into operation stands at Nrs. 4.83 Billion.
The airline is being unable to conduct flights in accordance with its capacity whereas it has not acquired flight permission for beneficial destination like India. Moreover, the carrier is not generating ample revenue from its current destination also.
The international carrier completes its 3rd year of operation by the end of year 2075. The airline company has been struggling to make market according to its pre-declared plan thus has opted to wet-lease its one aircraft as per international practice.
Currently, it owns 3 Airbus A320 series aircraft and is preparing to lease out its one A320 to Salam air of Oman for 6 months.
CAAN has permitted to lease the aircraft and hence, Salam Air could operate the aircraft in any of its sector and both Himalaya and Salam Air could increase the leasing period on mutual consent.
The carrier has been reluctant to clear pending dues of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) which has increased more than NRs. 14 crore as the carrier failed to clear all dues since a long time.
Earlier, TIA Civil Aviation Office warned the airlines to ground its aircraft however, the airlines has paid NRs. 1 crore of the service charge to TIA after receiving notice from TIA to take legal action as the carrier continuously failed to pay dues.
Recently, Himalaya has announced to operate 3 weekly flights to Abu Dhabi from TIA. The flights will be conducted on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The airline has added new destination to operate the flight and has opted to lease aircraft so as to clear the debt.
