Leading private carrier of the country Buddha Air has postponed its inaugural flights to Kolkata for about 6 weeks.
The airline had planned to conduct the flight to Kolkata starting from Mid-April. However, due to Lok Sabha Election of India which is scheduled to happen from 11 April to 19 May, it is going to hamper the inaugural flights. Buddha Air has postponed the flights to be inaugurated on 27 May 2019.
The airline had previously planned to initiate the flights from 15 April (Baisakh 1- Nepali New Year). The airline stated that the Lok Sabha Election will make a direct impact on the flight occupancy during the start of the operation thus has rescheduled the flight initiation.
The airline will conduct flights on the pre-scheduled routine which is 3 weekly Kolkata flight on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The airline will be operating flights initially from their current aircraft ATR-72.
The airline has already announced airfare rate for Kathmandu-Kolkata sector. According to the carrier, the two-way fare has been set up Rs 24000.
The airline is also set to add new aircraft in its fleet. The airline is set to increase its ATR 72-500 fleet. The aircraft with call sign 9N-AMY with the cost of NRs. 1 billion is likely to arrive in Nepal during the third week of March 2019.
The aircraft will undergo livery implantation process and other documentation procedure after arriving in Nepal.
After successful flights to Kolkata, the airline will be operating flights to various South Asian major cities after around 1 and a half year after initiating flight to Kolkata jet-powered aircraft. The airline stated that they have been reviewing Boeing as well as Airbus and will be choosing one accordingly.
The airline currently owns 11 aircraft that includes 2 Beechcraft B1900D, 3 ATR 42-320, and 6 ATR 72-500 series aircraft. The airline will be adding 2 more ATR 72 series aircraft to extend their flight operation to different cities of India.
The airline is providing services to Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa, Bharatpur, Simara, Janakpur, Biratnagar, Bhadrapur, Pokhara, Dhangadi, and Tumlingtar from TIA along with Mountain Flights as well as flights to Indian city Varanasi.
