India has agreed to provide airway entry point to Nepal from Bhairahawa and Janakpur. Nepal and India jointly filed a form to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for cross-border airway entry point from Bhairahawa and Janakpur.
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) informed that they have requested ICAO to generate cross-border entry point from Bhairahawa and Janakpur along with formation ‘Y’ direction.
Indian Aviation Authority and CAAN filed a joint application to ICAO for introducing Y direction at Janakpur and Bhairahawa.
The current route at the region only allows aircraft to exit from Nepal. After the approval, aircraft will be allowed to enter and exit from both two areas.
ICAO will study and conduct necessary experiment and then create a catalogue from where the new route will be live.
The respective aviation authorities will formulate required altitude for flight operation. Safety assessment will be conducted after the route gets a green signal.
The aircraft coming to Nepal from New Delhi and western side will have to travel shorter with the new route than the Simara route. Bhairahawa route will be suitable for Kathmandu, Pokhara and Nijgadh airport.
India previously agreed to provide entry point from Bhairahawa, Janakpur, Biratnagar, Nepalgunj and Mahendranagar. However, they have shown hesitation to include Biratnagar, Nepalgunj and Mahendranagar while filing application to ICAO.
