Himalaya Airlines leasing out its A320 series aircraft

Himalaya airlines, a Nepali international air carrier is preparing to lease out its Airbus A320 aircraft.

The carrier which has been operating international flight making Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) hub, is planning to lease its two among 3 Airbus A320 aircraft as the airline company has been struggling to make market according to its pre-declared plan.

Vijay Shrestha, vice president of Himalaya Airlines stated that the carrier is discussing on the plan of giving one aircraft in lease for short time in first phase. The company has not prepared the lease modality, he added.
According to the source, the carrier is planning to lease out its two A-320 aircraft to Salam Air for 3 months.

Vice President Shrestha said that there is a worldwide practice of giving and renting aircraft with another airline company for short period of time.

“Such practice is done internationally and we are going to do that only for short time,” he said.

Himalaya Airlines owns 3 Airbus A320 series aircraft.

The carrier has been reluctant to clear pending dues of TIA which has increased more than NRs 14 crore as the carrier failed to clear all dues since a long time.

Himalaya Airlines, a Nepal-China joint venture offering international flight services, entered the Chinese market with a maiden flight to its latest destination, Chongqing, a major tourist city of the People’s Republic of China. In October 18, the carrier commenced commercial flight in China.

The airline is operating the flight once a week. Himalaya is the only airline operating direct flights between the two cities.
