Phaplu-Biratnagar flight cancelled

Flag carrier of the country Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has halted its Phaplu-Biratnagar flight. The flight has been cancelled after lack of passengers in the route stated the airline.

The flight from Phaplu to Biratnagar was conducted around two months ago since October 26. The flight was scheduled weekly every Friday.

Station in-charge of the airline at the airport stated that, the airline is willing to operate flight at the scheduled time and routine however the decision to halt the flight came after the airline experienced low flow of passenger traffic at the route.

The airline will halt the flight on the scheduled route applicable from January 8 and the flight will not come into operation even if there are ample passengers for the route until next notice.

The air passenger traffic decreased after the people of Solukhumbu started taking roadway from Salleri to Biratnagar. The flight from Kathmandu to Phaplu will be continued.

Biratnagar Airport has been conducting mountain flight lately which has been considered as one of the reasons for decrease in flight to hilly region from the Province 1 capital.

Phaplu Airport is one of the iconic airstrips of Nepal located in Salleri-2, Solukhumbu and is the gateway to Everest Base Camp. At present, Tara Air, Summit Air and Nepal Airlines conduct their scheduled passenger flights from Kathmandu to Phaplu. Phaplu Airport is also known for conducting cargo flights as the fixed wing as well as heli-operators conduct cargo flights from Phaplu to Lukla.
