250 bigha land to be acquired for the expansion of Biratnagar Airport

Sherdhan Rai, Chief Minister of State no.1 stated that a land acquisition of 250 bighas land should be done to make Biratnagar Airport as a regional international airport.

Chief Minister Rai inaugurating the program organized by Biratnagar Airport on behalf of 20th anniversary of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) directed to acquire land at western side of airport without delay in order to make the runway of 3000 meters to make Biratnagar Airport an international airport.

He also informed that the information for the expansion and upgrading of Biratnagar airport has already been gathered and the meeting with Prime Minister and Tourism Minister will be organized in the next week.

He said that the fight from Biratnagar airport will be operated in all 13 places of the region soon and the government will provide necessary assistance to make mountain flights for Indian and foreign tourists from this airport.

One of the high official stated that if necessary Detailed Project Report (DPR) is prepared to make regional international airport then the federal government can include this plan in the policy and program of the next year. He said that there will be no crisis in providing land compensation while acquiring necessary land for expansion and emphasizing that it should provide necessary facilities to the passengers by expanding the Regional Intercontinental Airport.

Chuma Narayan Tavdar, state member expressed the views that the government should provide the necessary strategy for expanding the airport.

Teknath Sitaula, Director of Civil Aviation Authority Biratnagar was present in the program.

Rajendra Raut, Vice president of Commercial industry office of State 1 considered the construction of the international airport at Biratnagar is expected to decrease air traffic of Tribhuwan International Airport.

Currently, Biratnagar airport operates 28 flights daily. In the 11 months of 2018, 4,85,069 passengers have traveled through this airport.
