Two Parliamentary Committee has concluded that there will be no environmental damage like rumors stated for the construction of Nijgadh International Airport.
Both committee has suggested the concerned authorities to carry out the construction work of airport without alleviating the environmental issue.
National Concerns and Coordination Committee of National Assembly and Representatives of International Relations Committee submitted the report with the conclusion that there will not be any environmental damage like there has been rumors.
They also suggested to emphasize the construction of airport by making separate visits and discussions.
The committee has suggested the concerned bodies to speed up the process of the projects of national pride by taking care of environmental issues.
In the report, two committee has mentioned the number of trees that will be cut down and the guarantee of investment that will be effective.
Surrendra Raj Pandey, member of National Concerns and Coordination Committee stated that the Detailed Project Report has been submitted with clarification to the concerned bodies.
Similarly, International Relation Committee also made sub-committee and visited the site.
Team of Sub-committee led by former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal along with other officials conducted in-site inspection and prepared a report.
The report also mentioned that if the authorities still look for inspection and options then the construction work will not complete till another 27 years.
A sub-committee formed by National Concerns and Coordination Committee after many dispute were raised about destroying ecosystem by cutting down trees has cleared the rumor reported by several media saying the number of trees will be cut down as per requirement only.
Sub-committee also suggested the government to transplant trees to another location than to cut trees as most of trees are smaller one and it will be best options to transplant trees and maintain greenery in 4-5 years periods.
In the other side, National Concerns and Coordination Committee has decided that there is no requirement of airport city stating that it is far better to upgrade the cities in local units than to build airport city.
The airport will be developed in three phases. The first phase, as per the detailed feasibility study (DFS) of the project, will be of 10 years; the second phase will be of 5 years, and the third or final phase will be of 25 years.
The project envisions building a modern airport in Nijgadh in Bara district, 175 km from Kathmandu in the southern plains.
