Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has been gaining proper beautification and development as Tourism Year 2020 is coming near.
Along with the up-gradation of security features, the repair and maintenance at inside the terminal building is being carried out.
According to the management of TIA, new carpet has been placed at Departure room and X-ray room.
Previously, TIA added new chairs for the comfort of passengers at the departing section. The airport authorities added a new chairs facility at the exit point of Sterile hall which can accommodate 200 passengers.
The initiation of the service enhancement was carried out under the command of recently appointed Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari after the complaints from the various sources reached to him that daily the large numbers of traveling passengers have been gathering in the exit room in unmanaged way following the holding of the aircraft. In addition, the facility at the exit room was not sufficient to cope with the huge number of passengers.
Likewise, Domestic terminal of TIA has been facilitated with free WiFi facility. MoCTCA has started initiation to equip all airports around the country with free WiFi service.
Previously, the meeting was held at MoCTCA under the presence of Minister Adhikari addressing the introduction of free WiFi service to every airports of the country. The service will be expanded to other airports as soon as possible.
Airport management of TIA has shifted vehicle parking to new parking area after increase in traffic due to Taxi and other private vehicles dropping and picking up the travelers and their relatives.
The old parking spot will be used for VIP parking and lane will be used in its surrounding to control the traffic. The work was started from Sunday and the new plan is expected to take around a week to be fully executed. The entry and exit of the airport is also going to be changed.
There will be provision of keeping only 10 Green number plate and 10 black number plate vehicles and only after a vehicle (taxi) takes passenger and leaves, another taxi may drive to take that place. This system is also expected to end the syndicate of taxi drivers.
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has been working for the runway extension project of TIA. TIA is expected to be closed for 8 hours daily from Magh, 2075 (January 2019) for rehabilitation of the runway.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) Mr. Rabindra Adhikari has informed about the initiation of necessary preparations for the runway rehab process to make TIA operational for 24 hours a day. Nepal is celebrating ‘Visit Nepal Year 2020’ so, the effective airport infrastructure is mandatory for welcoming a considerable amount of tourists.
