Nepal Airlines first Airbus 320 ‘Sagarmatha’ expected to resume operation

Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) airbus A320-233 ‘9N-AKW’ Sagarmatha that encountered bird strike at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) during landing process is expected to resume operation in couple of days.

According to an official of the airline, the aircraft is undergoing maintenance and is scheduled to operate in couple of days if the maintenance is completed.

The aircraft encountered the incident on November 29 end after it departed from Bangalore in a night flight and during arrival at TIA. Currently, the aircraft is grounded and under-going maintenance in its Hanger at TIA.

The aircraft performed last scheduled flight on November 29 after it departed from Bengaluru on 6:40 PM and made landing at 9:19 PM in TIA.

NAC had seen many disruption in its flight operation lately due to frequent problem in its aircraft. In the same day the 9N-AKW got grounded, NAC wide-body aircraft 9N-ALY Annapurna recommenced the flight after being grounded for around couple of weeks due to problem in braking and cargo door was seen.

The flag carrier is going through hard time in proper management and operation of the corporation as there is internal conflict in the corporation as the internal management and service reinforcement of the corporation has carried out at the war level states some officials.

The condition has also led to problem in operation of the airline and was stated that the conflict led to delay in delivery of maintenance part for the wide-body ‘Annapurna’ that led to delay in completion of maintenance of the aircraft in time delaying its operation.

The same is expected to the ‘Sagarmatha’ and if it happens, the aircraft might also get delayed for operation.

However, NAC is strongly in process of spreading the market though European Union (EU) has still black-listed Nepali carriers. The corporation has lately held discussion with Japanese team to operate flights to Japan.

The corporation operates international flights with its 2 wide body A330 aircraft, 2 narrow body A 320 and 1 Boeing aircraft. Similarly, for domestic flights, the corporation operates with its 3 Twin-otter, 2 MA-60, 4 Y-12e aircraft. The corporation has been operating to 8 international destinations and 22 domestic destinations.
