Chaurjahari Airport in Rukum has come into operation nearly after being out of service for around last 17 months. National Flag Carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation has commenced the operation from today onward. The corporation is set to operate two flights a week; Wednesday and Thursday.
The flight is scheduled from Kathmandu to Chaurjahari and from Chaurjahari to Nepalgunj on Wednesday. According to an official, around 8 people traveled via the carrier today in the initiative flight. The airline will operate Nepalgunj-Chaurjahari-Kathmandu route on Thursday.
The closure of the airport due to lack of aircraft as stated by airlines had depressed locals of Jajarkot, Salyan, and Rukum and now after the re-operation of the flights, people are pleased and happy. The fare has also been revised for the route as the fare for Chaurjahari-Kathmandu is now Rs. 8000 and to Nepalgunj is Rs. 3000.
Previously, the carrier stooped its flight to the airport also due to pilot shortage and lack of aircraft which compelled seriously ill patients and complicated pregnant women to travel through risky rough road on vehicles.A meeting of provincial government along with Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) decided to recommence the operation.
Rukum district features another airport named as Salley where NAC operates 2 flights a week. The corporation reduced its flight frequency from 4 flights a week to 2 flights at Rukum’s Salle Airport
