Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has come up with a new approach to minimize the air traffic congestion of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
The authority has planned to encourage airlines companies to operate by establishing a base outside Kathmandu and charge less for night flight operations.
The airline companies have to arrange a hangar with required facilities for the operation and maintenance of the aircraft from the directed base.
Deputy Director General of CAAN, Mr. Rajan Pokhrel said that the airline companies who opt to construct a hangar and operate flights from the base outside Kathmandu will be provided with free land for five years. Those who don’t prefer hanger facility can get the service from an agreement with other airlines.
Likewise, CAAN will also provide discounts on landing/parking charge, security charge, and other extra charges for companies conducting night flights.
TIA has been operating almost 300 flights daily. Sita Air, Nepal Airlines Corporation, Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, Shree Airlines, Saurya Airlines, Tara Airlines have been operating domestic flights.
Major domestic airline companies have already started conducting two dozen night flights daily from TIA.
After the proposal of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), private airlines like Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, and Shree airlines have commenced night flights. These airlines have received permission to conduct 25 flights daily from 6 pm to 9 pm from Kathmandu to various destinations.
