Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is preparing for the installation of Communication Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM), Meteorological Equipment and other related goods and services for Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) project at Bhairahawa, Nepal.

The aviation regulatory body of Nepal has invited bids from eligible bidders for the Supply, Delivery, Installation, and Commissioning of CNS/ATM, Meteorological Equipment and other related goods and services for the airport which comes under the second package of GBIA project. The bidding is opened to the bidders from eligible source countries of Asian Development Bank (ADB) who must submit bids within 5th November 2018.

GBIA, a national pride project has attained over 50 percent physical progress. The airport is expected to conduct first flight on 27th September 2019 and come into operation soon thereafter, however, there might be some delays due to the untimely completion of the second package.

It might take a total of 5 months for awarding the contract with the fact that tendering process, documents evaluation, and issuance of the letter of intent takes considerable time.

Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Authority (MoCTCA) has sent a correspondence letter to the concerned authority to operate Gautam Buddha International Airport within next year. Ministry has informed other correlated bodies who directly or indirectly involved in the airport operations.

The project will serve the fast raising business and industrial hub of Bhairahawa and help towards the development of tourism business in Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. After the completion of the airport, it will serve up to 6,00,000 passengers annually.
