Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), the highest profit revenue generating airport in the country earned a profit of over Rs 5 billion in the fiscal year 2074/75.
According to the report of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Pokhara Airport has earned a profit of Rs 30.62 million. Pokhara Airport is one of the busiest domestic airports of Nepal.
Bhairahawa airport which is also known as Gautam Buddha Airport earned Rs 10.32 million profit which is the third highest among other airports. At present Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) project is going on and is expected to operate after July 2019. It is expected that this airport will play a great role in reducing TIA air traffic congestion.
Likewise, other airports like Lukla airport, Bharatpur airport, Simikot airport and Nepalgunj airport have earned some profit. Tenzing-Hillary Airport earned a profit of Rs 89 lakh 75 thousand, Bharatpur airport earned Rs 69 lakh 11 thousand, Simikot airport earned Rs 3 lakh 97 thousand whereas Nepalgunj airport earned Rs 3 lakh 96 thousand as a profit.
43 airports are reported to be in loss out of 56 airports of the country. TIA, Pokhara Domestic Airport, Gautam Buddha Airport, Lukla Airport, Bharatpur Airport, Simikot Airport and Nepalgunj Airport are the airports creating profit whereas Janakpur, Dhangadhi, Simara, Surkhet, Biratnagar, Jumla, Rukum, Rumjatar, Thamkharka and Tumlingtar airport are running in a loss as per the CAAN’s report 2074/75.
