Engineer Om Sharma, chief of Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) construction project has been transferred by Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
Engineer Sharma who has been continuously working from the foundation of the airport, has been transferred as the head of the Nijgadh International Airport project at Bara.
The officials of the airport project said that the transfer was done according to the regular process. The transfer of chief Sharma won’t affect the construction of GBIA project as it will be completed within the timeframe, informs the authorities.
According to the sources, Secretary General of CPN (Maoist) and former Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, Director General of CAAN Sanjeev Gautam, and Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari were trying to transfer chief Sharma.
Transfer of Mr. Sharma was delayed to some extent after the locals started the protest against the inappropriate land acquisition process.
The state officials, however, said that the construction work of airport will be affected after the transfer of project head. 60 per cent physical progress of airport has been completed under the supervision of Om Sharma and bringing new project head would raise doubt on the timely completion of the construction project.
The local authorities are not happy with the decision as there could be a high chance of delay in the completion of construction.
