Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, Government of Nepal is preparing to establish weather prediction center at Jomsom and Simikot in aim of collecting information weather prediction data from around the country.
Two airports at the region; Jomsom Airport and Simikot Airport will also get benefitted with the system as the airport can provide effective weather information to the flight crews hence, enhancing safe and sound flight operations.
Respective authority is conducting necessary preparations to establish such prediction centers. At present, 29 centers have been established for measuring airspeed, temperature and rainfall. Besides, 16 centers have been active for providing air weather service.
Jomsom and Simikot Airport mostly get disrupted due to adverse weather phenomena. Recently, Jomsom Airport remained out of operation for a week following bad weather conditions. Likewise, both the airport receive snowfall.
Lukla Airport, Ramechhap Airport, Simikot Airport, Jumla Airport and Jomsom Airport remain disrupted frequently due to unfavorable weather conditions. The airport officials says that it is difficult to predict the weather so, the establishment of weather prediction center will ease ATCs to dispatch effective weather information to the flight crews.
