Permission from 3 authorities required for heli-operations in restricted areas

The government has implemented new rules that the consent from Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) is required to operate helicopter in restricted area. The permission is mandatory for operating each helicopter in prohibited area of 13 districts.

In the past, Ministry of Home Affairs had been giving permission directly under the recommendation of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).

Ministry said that the new rules have been implemented in order to organize the flight in the prohibited areas. The government has to provide permission to operate helicopter to Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Dolakhha, Rasuwa, Gorkha, Manang, Mustang, Dolpa, Mugu, Bajhang and upper regions of Darchula.

MoCTCA stated that the authorization of Tourism Ministry has been compulsory though the permission was gained from Home minister and CAAN previously.

According to new policies, the helicopter companies should get permission through email or other means in the case of local or other people of prohibited area need treatment. If it is not possible, then within 24 hours of flights, the helicopter companies should inform the concerned authorities.

Similarly, under the circumstance of natural disasters, tourists rescue and evacuation, it is also permitted to take possession of the possibilities and notify within 24 hours of flight. It is also informed that new rules has been implemented in the aim of restoring peace and security by providing smooth service to the prohibited, control and service of the restricted area.
